Step 1.
Remove saddle bags from Motorcycle and or the lids from the saddlebag, more experienced installers may choose to leave the saddlebags on the motorcycle.
Step 2.
We recommend using "Blue 3M" tape commonly found at Home Depot or Lowes, tape over the painted portion of your saddle bag lids.
NOTE: This will prevent any scratching of the factory paint during the installation process.
NOTE: Make sure the template fits snug on all sides and corners of the saddlebag lid then hold firmly in place as you screw the two screws in the center of the templet to hold it in place.
NOTE: There is a brake and clutch side specific template for each lid. You can use a 1/8” drill bit to predrill holes before screwing the templates to the lid. Be sure the template is secure and wont move.
Step 4.
Once the template is secured, use 5/16” drill bit and drill holes in the template.
NOTE: We suggest drilling at every segment to make trimming, sawing easier.
Step 5.
We recommend using a jigsaw, many people have used a Dremel or other styles of cutting devices they may be familiar with, carefully and slowly start to cut and follow along the line of the template.
NOTE: DO NOT cut the segments of the template until all of the slots have been cut. This will help maintain accuracy and fitment for the grilles.
NOTE: When cutting, be sure that the saw blade stays in between the edges of the template. Cutting into the template will lead to fitment issues, the "Special Spot" to cut is the be right up against the outer portion of the templet without cutting into the templet itself. Once you have completed the cutting of both lids "it may be necessary" to take some time and test fit the grill for a nice flush clean fitment BEFORE screwing the mounting plate to the grill, if there are any areas preventing the grill from fitting nice and flush you may need to use a file and slowly file away any bures or lid material preventing the grill from sitting flush, This part right here right now and the attention to detail you take the time to do will be the difference between the grill fitting beautifully flush against your lid vs sticking up slightly.
Step 6.
Next you will attaché the speaker, grille and mounting ring to the lid using the supplied screws, when doing this part of the install you are also able to slightly align the whole assembly by carefully twisting while slowly screwing the screws in a crisscross pattern, DO NOT TIGHTEN the screws yet, by slowly manipulating the assembly it is possible in some circumstances to improve the complete fitment of the assembly aiding in creating a more pleasant looking flush grill to lid outcome.
NOTE: It is recommended placing the grill into the hole that has been cut into the lid and place the lid upside down on a bench. Then place the appropriate mounting ring onto the grille, along with the speaker. Secure with the supplied screws.
IMPORTANT - This is where it is absolutely necessary that you have taped up the lid so it does not get scratched while working on it upside down, also verify that there is no debris, screws, etc under your lid when doing this work or you will end up not very happy.
SPECIAL NOTE - BE SURE to remove any of the protective tape that is under the edge of the grill you used for protection while cutting the lid, if you fail to remove this small area of tape before securing the 6x9 adapter in place you will NEVER get the visible line of colored tape out and attempting to do so with a screwdriver like most people will do will only scratch your lid, trust us when we say this, if it is necessary unscrew the complete lid kit and then remove the protective tape and then reinstall the kit.
YOU'RE DONE! HAPPY LISTENING!
